about

Rerouted is my fourth album. Taken from recordings made sporadically from 2020-2022, it continues on the through composed work of my last album, along with the found sounds and acoustic instruments being mixed with electronic textures. Notable additions here are the most raw (non chopped/edited) use of my drumming so far on a track ("Next Stop"), and the use of hand drums and acoustic keyboard instruments. Also new here are the heavy use of field recordings and live electroacoustic techniques.

Along with personal experiences, the album took shape with strong influence from writings involving city planning, transit, and people's conscious and unconscious relationships to their environment. Writings by Jane Jacobs and Guy Debord were on my mind in the last year of making the album. The influence of these topics and works manifests in track titles "Psychogeography," "Expressways," "Walking Distance," and "A Drift."

Derives in New York (the city I live in), as well as in San Francisco and Oakland (which I was lucky to be able to visit in May 2022) were a big inspiration for creating and finishing this album, which was originally planned as an EP. Two tracks ("Lookout" and "Ravine") got their names from areas of a park in NY where I've spent many hours wandering.

Credit is also due to musicians Autechre, Armand Hammer (billy woods and ELUCID), Wendy Carlos, Rob Mazurek, Sam Pluta, Bjork, Yosi Horikawa, and King Tubby - to name a fraction of the sonic influences of this album.

The front cover of the album features a photo taken by Desiree Negron Carrero that she took from a balcony in San Francisco of me standing at an intersection near the Tenderloin neighborhood. The back cover is the reverse perspective, me photographing her in that same moment. I want to take the chance to thank her for hearing multiple drafts of each of these tracks and providing feedback without even knowing if each one had a purpose of plan to be released.

Lastly, thank you for listening to this album.
